Electricity
Making gelato uses a lot of power – around 50,000 kWh per year in each shop.
We minimise our power usage in various ways, including the use of LED lighting and the use of a heat pump water heater in Bellingen.
We use 100% renewable energy in our Rozelle shop.
Take Away Containers
All gelato, coffee, and milk shake cups are biodegradable paper. Smoothie cups are Ingeo plant based plastic. Carry bags are biodegradable plastic. Gelato spoons are Revode bioplastic, (made from starch from non-GMO crops).
Food Waste
All food leftovers, coffee grounds and fruit off-cuts are composted.
Recycling
All milk bottles, paper, glass, tins and other recyclables are recycled.
Water
In Bellingen we have an innovative system developed by us which collects rainwater and recycles cooling water used in gelato manufacture.
We use water efficient scoop rinse sprays in both shops.
Grease Trap
The milk fat component of our waste water is separated out in our grease trap, before entering the sewage system. From there it is removed and treated separately.
What is your NEW gelato takeaway container made from? Is it recyclable in Australia. Seems to be an Italian product.
Hi Heta,
So sorry, I only just saw this!? – Better late than never š
Those containers were made in Italy and were both recyclable and compostable – However, we now use BioPak containers. Their website has way more information to offer than I can possibly type š
Hope that helps š
