Sustainability
Sustainability is very important to us, and there’s a number of things we are doing to try to reduce our business’ footprint
Electricity and water use
Making gelato uses a huge amount of power – around 50,000 kWh per year.
It was one thing to replace our lighting with LED lightbulbs and our scoop sinks with efficient rinse sprays – the challenge came with finding a sustainable way to manufacture the gelato.
First, we converted our machines so that they could be cooled using water, then we set up a system to recycle the water that was used. Now, with the help of a rainwater tank out the back, it’s a completely closed loop!
Take away containers
All our gelato and coffee cups are biodegradable. Our milkshake and smoothie cups are biopak’s plant based plastic, which is certified as commercially compostable. Gelato spoons are made from wood.
What is your NEW gelato takeaway container made from? Is it recyclable in Australia. Seems to be an Italian product.
Hi Heta,
So sorry, I only just saw this!? – Better late than never 🙂
Those containers were made in Italy and were both recyclable and compostable – However, we now use BioPak containers. Their website has way more information to offer than I can possibly type 🙂
Hope that helps 🙂
